Seller: warrenwwood (286) 100%, Location: East Lansing, Michigan, Ships to: US, Item: 323585570871 This beautiful microscope is constructed entirely in brass (5 lbs. 13 oz.) It stands approximately 16-inches in height in the inclined position when set up for use as shown in the photos with the inner nickel-plated draw tube, (an early zoom) extended. The coarse focusing is by rack and pinion and the fine focus utilizes a micrometer screw, which operates on the nosepiece. Included are one original ocular eyepiece and two replacement objectiveslens one signed Spencer Lens Co Buffalo 16 MM N. A. 0.25 and 10 X, the other appears newer and is signed “28 m/m= 3.5X” “GRAPH-APSCO”. The microscope is in good vintage mechanical condition. All components work smoothly. The optics are in fine vintage condition giving a suitable image. The microscope has an even aged patina and there is no pitting or dents on the brass. The mirror shows silver aging with spots, and the two slide hold-down clips for the stage are missing. The double-sided mirror (plane and convex) is adjustable on its very interesting swinging arm of the type developed by Zentmayer and has a splay foot design typical of the Zentmayer “American Student Stand”. This certainly appears to be a 1870’s Zentmayer microscope as it is identical in every respect to those shown in period catalogs, although no maker’s identification or serial number is visible suggesting it must have been made prior to the 1881 “source of manufacture” laws or might have been a preproduction prototype. “Swedish Death Cleaning” (decluttering) and deep retirement with consequent lack of space, forces disposal of my lifetime accumulation of interesting stuff. I have attempted to accurately and honestly describe this item but note that photos are an important part of the description.
